The Alserkal family has its origins in the Al-Ali tribe, the title “Alserkal” derives from the word “Sarkar” which is an Indian term meaning “the government.”
The rulers of the Trucial Coast and the Gulf used it in letters to representatives and agents of the British Government, for whom members of the Alserkal family served as native agents for more than seventy years.
Nasser bin Abdullatif Alserkal (1917–1990) was a pioneering Emirati businessman and visionary who played a foundational role in the economic development of Dubai and the UAE. He is best known for founding the Nasser Bin Abdullatif Alserkal Establishment in 1947
Key Contributions & Pioneering Work
Telecommunications: He founded the Dubai Telephone Company Ltd. in 1960, which eventually evolved into Etisalat by e&.
Banking: He was a founding member and vice president of the National Bank of Dubai (now Emirates NBD) in 1963 and a founder of the Commercial Bank of Dubai in 1969.
Utilities: He was the first to commercialize electricity and introduce water drilling and generators to the local community.
Public Service: He served as the vice president of the newly established Dubai Municipality in 1958 and was a founding member of the Dubai Chamber of Commerce in 1965.
Business Legacy
The Alserkal family business, now spanning four generations, operates across several key sectors:
- Automotive: The group is the sole importer and distributor of Bridgestone tires in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. It also distributes Kumho, Apollo, and other Chinese tire brands across the UAE. The business operates the Dial A Tire retail chain, the "Dial-A-Tire" mobile service, and a Bridgestone tire retreading (manufacturing) unit.
- Real Estate: The group develops and manages high-quality residential and commercial properties.
- Arts & Culture: The family's legacy includes Alserkal Avenue, a world-renowned cultural district in Dubai's Al Quoz area, founded by Abdelmonem Bin Eisa Alserkal.
- Travel & Tourism: The business operates under the brands Eisa Travel and Heritage Express.
Background
Born in 1917, Nasser came from a family with a history of serving as native agents for the British government. After early roles at the British Political Agency in Sharjah and in the petroleum industry, he established his own trading company in 1947, initially selling car parts before expanding into agricultural equipment and large-scale infrastructure
